Dear Families,

Thank you to all who attended parent conferences.  We need the support of parents to make sure our children are successful.  Teacher newsletters and websites should be letting you know what standards students are working on, but you still need to stay in communication with the teacher to find out how your child is progressing.  Please make sure your child continues to read nightly.

Everyone looked great for school pictures!!

The second grade President’s Day project was excellent!  We are very proud of our second graders!!  Thank you to those who were able to attend.

We will be sending home this week a Nebo Elementary Student Handbook.  You received copies of policies and most of this information in the student agenda book.  The purpose of the agenda book is for parent communication and also so you have paper copies of pertinent policies.  There will be a couple of different things in the little handbook, so be sure to look for it this week.

Until then, here are a few reminders.

Please help us out with the following things:

1.        There is no supervision of students before 7:30 a.m. unless your child attends the paid before school.  Students should not be dropped off before 7:30 a.m.  Last week some students were left at 7:05.  The door to the building over there is not open and there is no adult to supervise.                                                       OVER

2.       Morning Car Line – If you have to get out of the car and go around to let your child in/out of the vehicle, please pull up to the curve right past the sidewalk to do that and the car line can continue to move.  You can let your child out and see them safely onto the sidewalk without holding up the car line.

3.       This is a no smoking campus.  We have been having to sweep up a lot of cigarette trash.  Please help by observing the regulations.

Thank you for your help with these situations.

Dates to look forward to:

February 24 – Jump Rope For Heart Assembly

March 9 – Science Festival; 6:30 p.m. PTO – We will need parent volunteers to help with this.  If you are available to help during the school day on March 9, please let Mrs. Poplin know.

My Principal Council is a group of students who meet with me to work on projects that will benefit the school and students.  They have great ideas!  Their classmates may send other ideas with them to the meetings.  So far, we have completed a red, white and pink kindness chain which was used to decorate the cafeteria.  Each child wrote an act of kindness they had performed on a link of the chain.  The cafeteria looked beautiful.

They want to see me kiss an animal.  We will have to see if we meet the Walk A Thon goal????

Our next project is to let each student decorate a shamrock.  These will be displayed in the school.  These will be sent home next week.

I have also started working with a group of fifth grade students on Leadership Projects.  They are designing and planning the projects at this time.  One of the projects is to help prevent bullying and the other is to support kindergarten students.  I’m looking forward to seeing how these projects progress.

Our Parent Advisory Council will be meeting February 27.  I will send information in the newsletter about items discussed.

Until next time, Joyce Poplin
