Hi, my name is Amber Williams and I teach first grade. I am a McDowell native, class of 2005. This will be my ninth year teaching first grade. In my spare time, I like to read and play with my six year old son - I wish I had just an ounce of his energy! I enjoy coming to school each day and seeing the smiling faces of my students. They make me want to come to school - we learn so much from each other. :-)
One of the things I love most about first grade is seeing the kids start to read. This is, in my opinion, one of the most pivotal years for reading. They come from kindergarten with the basic sight words knowledge and some reading skills, but in first grade, reading really starts coming to life. I love to see the "light bulb" come on in their brains when something finally sticks and makes sense.
